A piece I did for Gaycation Magazine where I discuss driving a motorhome cross-country and a couple of the missteps we took along the way.
A Bee Line to Florida
It was a dark and stormy night…
Actually, it wasn’t. It was cloudy and cold as the snow fell the day we left New York heading to Florida. We said our goodbyes to family and promised we’d be back sometime after winter. We were pretty excited to be on the road once again driving into the unknown. My only concern was turning on the heat and hoping the snow stayed as flurries because we were driving a 40,000+ pound motorhome we dubbed “Priscilla.”
With the GPS set for Wilton Manors Florida and DJ behind the wheel, we were set. Or so I thought. As we’re cruising down the road, I’m watching the weather. When we left the forecast called for a snowstorm. No WAY were we going to get caught photo courtesy of www.hardesty-hanover.com in that type of weather. We were pretty much in store for snowy weather well beyond Washington DC where it finally turned into rain. Since we left mid-afternoon that day, it meant driving until we reached pure rain.
